Five checks to run on any men's supplement, including mine.
I make supplements for men over 45. Before I made them, I spent a long time reading the backs of other people's bottles. Most of what I found was designed not to be read.
So here is the test I use. It takes about ninety seconds per bottle, and it will change what you buy.
Look for the words proprietary blend. That phrase is legal permission not to tell you how much of anything is inside. A company that has put a meaningful dose in the bottle has no reason to hide it. A company that has put in a pinch has every reason.
Pass: a number next to every single ingredient.
"Epimedium extract, 1000mg" tells you the weight of the powder. It does not tell you how much of the active compound is in it, and that can vary by a factor of ten between suppliers. "Standardised to 100mg icariins" tells you what you are actually getting.
Pass: the word standardised, and a second number.
Fourteen ingredients on the front of a bottle looks generous. Turn it over and you will usually find twelve of them at three or four milligrams, which is present for the label and absent for you. One ingredient at a dose that matches the research beats twelve at sprinkle level.
Pass: at least one ingredient at a dose you can find studies on.
Sixty capsules is not a two month supply if the serving size is two capsules. It is thirty days. Check servings per container rather than capsule count, then work out the real cost per day.
Pass: the maths matches the claim on the front.
An FDA registered, GMP certified facility is the baseline, not a badge of honour. If a company will not name the standard its manufacturer works to, ask why.
Pass: it says so on the label or the product page.
Fair is fair. FOR HIM Blend passes 1, 2, 4 and 5.
On 3, here is the honest version. One ingredient does the work, epimedium standardised to 100mg icariins per serving. The other eight are supporting amounts, and some of them are small. I print all nine anyway, because you should be the one deciding whether that trade is worth it, rather than finding out later.
That is the whole argument. One thing at a real dose, every number visible.
